Lucas Signed to Us for the First Time!

   Lucas signed to us for the first time today, after we have been signing to him for months, but without him signing back.  I had begun to get discouraged that he'd ever sign on his own.  But, he did his own sentence, saying, "Baby is sleeping" as I carried baby Andrew up the stairs for his nap.  I was so thrilled I almost dropped the baby. (well...not really!)  Of course, he got many joyful responses from us and a cake-lollypop from yesterday's school bake sale!

   We spent the day in Rochester having Lucas evaluated for a cochlear implant.  The Doctor said things can move forward quickly now, and that Lucas may be experiencing hearing by the summer!  What a wonderful gift that will be! 

Lucas's Journey to Hearing

   Welcome to our Blog following Lucas's Journey to Hearing!  Lucas will be six years old this May, and we adopted him from China this past December 2011, along with little brother Andrew, who is two.  Lucas is a very special boy because he was born deaf and will be receiving a cochlear implant very soon, which will give him the gift of hearing.  We hope you enjoy Lucas's journey to hearing with us!
